# Marketing Council — Marketing Skill for AI Agents

A marketing council gives you multiple expert perspectives on one decision by simulating named marketers applying their actual frameworks to your specifics. The value isn't any single take — it's the disagreement: the bench is deliberately seated with 3–5 advisors whose lenses conflict, always including at least one designated dissenter, so a council never just mirrors back your existing plan. Each take is grounded in what the advisor has published (no fabricated quotes), and the output ends with a disagreement map naming the underlying trade-offs plus a chair's synthesis fitted to your stage and constraints. It decides direction; you hand off execution to the relevant skill.

## What's inside

**The playbook covers:** Before Starting, Session Modes, The Bench, Seating the Council, Session Protocol, Live Research Pass, Grounding Rules (non-negotiable), Output Format, The question before the council, Seated: [Advisor A], [Advisor B], [Advisor C] ([mode]), Where the council disagrees, Chair's synthesis, Adding a Custom Advisor, Anti-Patterns

### Reference library

- [Custom Advisor Template](https://github.com/coreyhaines31/marketingskills/blob/main/skills/marketing-council/references/advisor-template.md) — Copy this structure to add an advisor to the bench. Save custom advisors to `.agents/advisors/<kebab-name>.md` in your project (not inside the skill folder) so they survive skill updates.

## Example

**Prompt:** We're a B2B SaaS about to cut our price 40% to compete with a cheaper rival. Have the council review this.

**The question before the council**

Should we cut price 40% to match a cheaper rival? Seated: Hormozi, Halbert, Sutherland (dissenter). — Simulated council; each take is built from the advisor's published frameworks, not their actual review.

**Where the council disagrees**

1. Hormozi vs. Sutherland — Hormozi says fix the value equation (raise perceived likelihood, add a guarantee) before touching price; Sutherland says a lower price is itself a signal, and a discount can read as "lower quality," not "better deal." The real trade-off: is your conversion problem value perception or absolute price? What settles it: a landing-page test of price-hold-plus-guarantee vs. the 40% cut.

Chair's synthesis: Don't lead with the cut. Test a stronger offer at current price first; keep Sutherland's signaling warning as the tripwire. Execute with: offers, pricing.

## FAQ

### Is the marketing council actually the real marketers' opinions?

No — it's persona simulation, labeled as such at the top of every session. Each take is built from what the advisor actually wrote or said (their published frameworks and documented positions), never fabricated quotes or invented endorsements of your specific company. For time-sensitive or niche questions it can run a live research pass to cite primary sources.

### Which marketers are on the bench?

Twelve advisors chosen so their lenses collide: Seth Godin, David Ogilvy, Eugene Schwartz, Claude Hopkins, Gary Halbert, Russell Brunson, Alex Hormozi, April Dunford, Rory Sutherland, Byron Sharp, Ann Handley, and Gary Vaynerchuk. You can also add your own advisor — even a former boss or exec — by supplying their positions.

### Why does the council disagree instead of just answering?

Because a council that agrees is a mirror, not a board. Every session seats at least one designated dissenter whose documented position conflicts with where your question is leaning, so you see the genuine trade-off — reach vs. resonance, price vs. value, permission vs. pressure — and what evidence would settle it, before you choose.
